Google Keep is a versatile note-taking app by Google. It lets you quickly jot down ideas, make to-do lists, and save important information. You can stay organized on the go with color coding and effortless organization.
We have a couple of tips to make the most of it.
Share Notes
Do you know what is cool? Sharing your notes! You can let others in on the action, like when planning that epic holiday or needing help with your shopping list. The computer has a small icon with a plus sign called the collaborator button. Click on it and enter the email addresses of your friends.
Now, if you’re on your phone, the collaborator button hides, but no worries! Tap those three dots on the lower right, and you’ll find the magic potion. Your pals, once invited, can dive into your note, spice it up with colors, and even make changes to whatever you’ve written. It’s like teamwork!
Jazz Up Your Notes
Fancy some pizazz? Go beyond colors! Tap that button with a painter’s palette (yeah, that’s the one) and check out the cool backgrounds you can add to your notes. You get pastel colors, but that’s not all – you have nine awesome images, too! Each one matches a theme, like food or tunes. So, your notes can look as fabulous as they are helpful!
Take Your Notes to Google Docs
Picture this: your notes and Google Docs teaming up like superheroes. Let’s make your work even smoother. Open up Keep right alongside Google Docs or Slides – the ultimate sidekick for your brainstorming sessions and rough drafts. When the timing’s right, drag and drop your ideas into Google Docs.
But wait, there’s more! Flip the script. Snag an excellent text block, right-click, and Keep saving it. What’s the bonus? Keep cleverly attaching a link to the original document. Level up your productivity game with this note-taking magic!
Convert notes
Sometimes, a Google Keep note can’t contain all your brilliance, or you want to jazz up the text. No worries! Transform your message into a fully-fledged Google Docs document effortlessly prepared for editing in the seamless environment of Google Drive. Oh, and don’t sweat it – a copy will be made, so your original note stays intact.
On the computer, hit those three dots at the note’s bottom and choose ‘Copy to Google Docs.’ For mobile, press and hold the message in the main view, then tap those three dots (top right), and hit ‘Copy to Google Docs.’ Remember, no background colors or images will tag along.
Guess what? You can also do a cool drag-and-drop. Open your Google Doc on the web, pop out the Google Apps sidebar (click that tiny arrow in the bottom right), and hit the Google Keep icon. Your notes are right there, waiting to be dropped into your doc. It’s like magic for your creativity!
Link reminders
Google Keep isn’t just about notes – it’s your reminder guru, too! Click or tap the ‘Remind me’ button (bell icon with plus symbol) beside any note on your mobile device or web to set a reminder. A reminder is born.
You’ve got options: pick a date and time or get fancy with location-based reminders. Yep, you heard right. Imagine your phone or laptop giving you a nudge exactly when you’re at the right spot. Google Keep’s got your back.
Mind Map with Freehand Drawing
Have you considered mapping your mind? It’s genius to see how ideas connect. Get scribbling with your finger! Tap the plus sign, hit Drawing, and let loose. Use the Pen tool for neat mind maps, then save them to a note. It’s like magic on your screen!
Use checkboxes
Need a list? Check this out: checkboxes are your buddies. Tick the box, and your note slides to the ‘done’ section.
Create/select a note > three dots > Show tick boxes on your computer. To create or select a note on your phone, locate the bottom left corner of your screen and tap the square plus icon.
Are you tired of those boxes cluttering up your space? No worries! Hit three dots and choose ‘Hide tick boxes’ if checkboxes are on.
Nest items
Your lists can get a lot fancier in Google Keep. You can nest items under each other. The cool thing is when you check the top item, its whole nest gets checked off!
On your computer, click and drag an item via the six-dot handle to its left. Place it gently on another object, slightly towards the right. A nested list would be perfect for this! On your phone, swipe right on a list item to indent and nest it under the one above.
Archive Unnecessary
When your notes pile up and things get cluttered, it’s time to clean up. If you spot outdated info, archive those notes. This hides them from the main view, keeping things neat. Whenever you need them again, no sweat – head to the archive tab, and there they are!
Organize Your Notes Without Folders
Labels serve as particular tools to organize your notes efficiently. Think of them as hashtags you can effortlessly search from the top bar. Don’t go overboard – too many labels can get crazy.
Here’s the cool part: just type #label-name and Keep does the rest. Apply an existing label or create a new one. Make your study plan more organized by tagging notes, for example. Then, when you’re in the zone, use the search bar or labels list to find all your study-related notes in a snap.
Record anywhere
Imagine you’re out, and a brilliant idea pops up, but there’s no paper or time to write. Well, Google Keep’s got your back. Record your thoughts and listen later! Open the app, spot the mic icon below, and tap it to record.
Share your ideas anytime, anywhere. No matter what language you speak, we will transcribe your voice recordings. Just visit the note to reply whenever you’re ready.
Grab text from an image
Google Keep’s got this cool trick – Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Quick time-saver: Snap a pic of typed notes with your phone camera and save it in Keep. OCR does the rest, pulling in the text for you to edit in the note.
Hey, handwritten text isn’t its strong suit, but give it a go on a text-filled whiteboard. Even if OCR doesn’t nail it, the pic’s there for backup. Goodbye, extra OCR software – Keep’s got you!
Pin Notes
Got tasks that keep coming back? Are there any notes that require your frequent attention? Pin them! Pinned notes stay right at the top for easy access.
On your computer, hover over the note, spot the pin, and click it – the note’s up top. On your phone, open the note, tap the three options, and there’s the pin option, ready to keep your note visible.
Add labels
Labels function as powerful organizers, particularly when an abundance of notes begins to accumulate. Click or tap on – all related notes appear; you can search like a pro.
Online, tap those three dots at the note’s bottom and click ‘Add label.’ It’s the same three dots on your phone, but it’s ‘Labels.’ Keep lines up your labels on the left; it is easy to grab. You can even edit them from there. On your phone, tap the menu (three lines, top left) to get the sidebar magic.
Create doodles
You can make a new note, a work of art, or jazz up an old one. Online, it’s those three dots by a note, or on mobile, hit the plus in the corner. Find the paintbrush icon.
Pick from cool brushes and colors – there’s plenty to choose from. And guess what? If your handwriting is neat, keep scanning it! So, even your doodles are searchable for quick note-finding.
Toggle Dark Mode
Google’s Dark Mode journey has ups and downs. But guess what? Keep’s Dark Mode is simply phenomenal! Your notes and their background get this cool dark gray, way easier on your eyes.
Yeah, there’s a catch – you’ve got to flip the switch yourself. No auto-magic here! To go Dark Mode, hit that cogwheel up top and pick ‘Enable Dark Theme.’ Let the coolness begin!
